When you complete our online enquiry form, we will be in touch to advise whether or not you could be eligible for funding. You will then be offered the opportunity to further explore the possibility of improving your home via energy efficiency improvements, which is when we will propose for you to agree a suitable time and day for the energy assessment to be carried out.
Your home energy assessment
Your home will need to undergo a home energy assessment so that we can identify the appropriate measures to install to your home and provide you with an accurate cost. The energy assessment will cause minimal disruption and will be conducted by an accredited and trusted assessor, requiring access to the inside and outside of your home.
Depending on the size and complexity of your home, the assessment will likely take 1–2 hours. Read on to learn more.
When will we conduct your home energy assessment?
Even if you aren’t eligible for funding, you may still wish to explore how your home could benefit from home energy improvements via your own finances or taking out private finance via our finance partner or lender of your choice.
What areas of my home will the assessment look at?
The assessment will assess both the inside and outside of your home. To produce an accurate assessment, the assessor will need full access to all rooms inside the home, including the loft, and the outside of the property. The assessment is purely visual and therefore will cause minimal disruption to you.
It’s worth noting that we will be required to take photos in your home of the aspects that affect the energy assessment e.g. windows, boiler, loft insulation and so there will be a visual record.
What will the assessment produce?
The assessment will identify the ways your home uses energy, and identify ways that it could use energy more efficiently. Any measures that are recommended following the assessment will therefore reduce the amount of energy used, providing you with a more efficient and comfortable home to run.
An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) will also be produced, which you can read more about below.
What happens once the energy assessment is complete?
You will be provided with the findings from the energy assessment, along with a quote for the recommended works. You will then have the opportunity to decide whether you’d like to proceed. Our Home Hero team will be able to advise if you aren’t sure about anything.
The Energy Assessment will include:
Insulation Survey
Conducted at the same time as the energy assessment, this is a technical review to note all the details we would need to fit internal/external wall and/or loft insulation to your property. Checks would include condition of walls, windows, doors, roof and where any services such as telephone cables, electrical cables or meter boxes connect with the inside of your home.
Rest assured we have processes to ensure minimal disruption but also to safeguard any finer details when working on your home. We will take note and detail any items that may be included/excluded in this home improvement and detail that to you in your personalised quote.

EPC FAQ
What is an EPC?
The energy efficiency of a property can be determined by an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC), which goes from a rating of A (most efficient) to a rating of G (least efficient). Our friendly customer advisors will be able to check for a current rating on the public register if one is available.
You may have seen stickers like the one below on appliances around your home or when you look to purchase them in the shops. Your home gets a similar sticker with a rating once an energy assessment has been done.
What does an EPC assessment look at?
An EPC assessment looks at the things that affect the energy efficiency of your home. This will include the lighting, the construction of the walls on your property, and the type of heating system you have in your home. The assessor will also look at the dimensions of your property and take note of the size and layout of your home.
So what does this mean?
When we assess all the various aspects of your property for an EPC it provides an overall energy rating. A property with an EPC rating of D or less could be eligible for ECO funding. The report is freely available to you for review and our customer advisors will be able to help you further once the results are provided.
How do I get an EPC?
If you don’t have an EPC, don’t worry, we can complete a simple assessment on your property. It takes a couple of hours to conduct and we can share the results with you once the assessor completes their paperwork.
How much funding will you receive?
The amount of funding you receive will depend upon your eligibility. While it is unlikely that funding will be enough to cover the full cost of your home energy improvements, any outstanding cost may be paid for via our various finance options on offer to suit you. This will help you to pay for the improvements which will reduce your home energy consumption and improve your home.
The first step to find out more is to fill out our enquiry form which will prompt our customer advisors to review your case. We will then be in touch to be able to indicate if any funding is available. Next, we’ll conduct a home assessment to see how much the energy efficiency improvements will cost. You will then be in a position to make an informed decision for how to fund any remaining amount.
