Battery Storage

Battery storage is a great way to save energy from your solar panels or from the grid to use at a later point in time.

Battery technology is improving all the time and the capacity and ability to save energy for when it’s most needed is becoming more commonplace in domestic homes.

When solar panels are installed it’s usually recommended to pair this with a battery storage system to be able to benefit from the excess energy your solar panels produce during daylight hours. Especially in the summer months when consumption of electricity tends to be lower across the UK.

What are the benefits of Battery Storage?

When you’re saving up energy for the times when you need it rather than drawing from the grid it comes with a number of advantages:

  • Saving money on your energy bills by using energy you have generated previously.
  • Storing energy from renewable technology, such as Solar PV.
  • Support high demand periods like in the evenings when the family is at home.
  • Support electric vehicle charging.
  • Using off-peak tariffs to charge the battery.

Is a battery storage system right for me?

When you’re saving up energy for the times when you need it rather than drawing from the grid it comes with a number of advantages:

  • If you want to save energy and store it for later.
  • If you want to sell energy back to the grid that you’ve stored.
  • If you consider where have space for these on external walls or in your garage
  • If your looking to be energy conscious.
  • If you like tracking your energy usage using the latest technology.
  • If you want to use offset tariffs for cheaper energy.

Will installing a battery
save me money?

You need to weigh the potential savings against the cost of installation.

Our trusted installers will be able to advise you on how long the battery will last and also how you can maximise your energy savings.

We will ensure all details you need are included in your handover packs to help you make the most of this solution.

Included in handover will be advisories on off-peak tariffs that will help with maximising energy storage/saving so it’s important to combine the home improvement with one of these to help get the most out of your investment.

What if I have a smart export tariff?

Usually, your energy provider will advise you on the terms with which you benefit from a smart export tariff if you have solar panels, for example.

To be clear if you choose to store the energy then energy suppliers do not have to pay for non-renewable electricity that is exported to the grid. So it’s important to be clear on the terms and conditions of your deal for your export tariff. The Solar Energy UK website regularly updates a league table of the best SEG tariffs available, so you can compare rates.

If you’re still on a feed-in-tariff you will continue to get your FIT payments until the end of your contract. These contracts closed to new applicants back in March 2019 so the new smart export guarantee is the latest concept to supersede this.

Be prepared to shop around for the best energy details.

When you’re part of the smart energy generation conclave there are multiple ways to benefit from your renewable technologies.

Some tariff’s can be more interactive than others depending on the amount of time you’re willing to invest in maximizing returns. Consider whether you have solar panels, electric vehicles to charge, battery storage and also when you’re likely to use energy the most. This can vary for everyone depending on family size and how you use your home. Our friendly advisors are always more than happy to discuss solutions and how they can work best for you.
