Loft insulation is fitted above the ceiling level in your loft space and is one of the most cost-effective and simple energy measures to install. Usually, insulation is fitted between the joists/ceiling supports in your roof space and then to prevent any unwanted heat loss it is laid across the joists to maximise heat retention. We would look to improve your loft insulation to a depth of between typically 270mm & 400mm.
Loft insulation is fitted to the entirety of the roof space and if necessary any active tanks or pipes will be insulated to safe-guard against freezing as well. We will ensure there is safe access to these pipes and tanks should a heating engineer need to work on them.

What will loft insulation in my property look like?

When loft insulation is complete it covers the whole of the loft space. Rest assured access to anything like pipework and tanks will be given secure and safe access for a heating engineer but the rest of your loft space will be completely covered in insulation to ensure you get the most out of the energy savings.

We’ll also make sure your loft hatch is insulated and sealed so as not to let errant draughts circulate in your property.

We won’t install loft ladders or install boarded areas or new loft hatches. If you have a current storage area you will be advised on this at the survey stage. Your quote will give clear details on what is included and what is excluded.

Energy Savings

Energy Bill Savings (£/year)

Here’s how much a typical installation could cost you, how much you could save on your energy bill (£/year) as well as how many kilograms of CO₂ emissions you could save each year by insulating an uninsulated loft with 270mm of loft insulation.

Estimates based insulating a gas-heated home with a totally uninsulated loft (0mm) with 270mm of loft insulation. The recommend depth of mineral wool insulation is 270mm, but other materials need different depths. The average professional installation costs is unsubsidised, but the prices will vary. Figures are based on fuel prices as of July 2024.

This means if you live in a semi-detached house you can typically save £200/year on your energy bills by having loft insulation done if you have little to no existing insulation. The EST have used fuel prices at July 2024.

Things To Note

Your loft space will need to be clear of belongings and storage items for us to carry out the works.

It is highly important that the insulation is not flattened or disrupted following works completed as this will affect how well the loft insulation works.

Improving your loft insulation may be considered as part of a package of measures; for example when solid wall insulation is fitted and your loft needs topping up we will advise you in your personal quotation if this is the case.

Should you require loft insulation in isolation, a contribution may be necessary as funding may not cover the full cost of this improvement on its own.
